Ditch the 90-Minute Treadmill Workout

I’m just a dude, so what do I know… But I’m trying to understand the 90 minute treadmill workout. I know that cardio is important and that after finishing a cardio workout I feel like I’ve worked hard and accomplished something, but cardio alone just won’t cut it! I was at a gym a couple years ago and saw a woman that was literally on the treadmill for 90 minutes, I just don’t get it! I mean she was working hard! This wasn’t one of those women that you see that are walking and checking their email on their blackberry, this woman was running - her hair in a low pony, long sleeved t-shirt tied around her waste to cover up embarrassing sweat marks (you didn’t think we knew about that did you), just going at her 90-minute treadmill workout. Apart from being unbelievably boring and a lot of hard work, long cardio workouts are definitely not the most effective workouts.
Here are a few things to think about when coming up with efficient workouts:
**Cardio After Lifting – Cardio is great after you’ve completed the rest of your workout, you’ll be a little sore and your body will be ready to drop those lb’s.
**Try a treadmill workout – Just because you’re on the treadmill doesn’t mean that you have to be running/walking for an hour. Try Treadmill workouts that encourage you to jog then sprint then jog again. This kind of workout is great in the cardio department and you’ll definitely be feeling it!
**Maintain an elevated Heart Rate – The cardio element comes into play because your heart rate is elevated, this can also be achieved by limiting rest in between other exercises, like on those machines that you see at the gym.
Hopefully you’ll find these tips useful, but I’m just a dude, so what do I know…
Looking for a great treadmill workout? I’ve got you…

Courtney Smith is “That Girl”
Filed Under Inspiration, Package of Prevention, the 4-1-1 | Leave a Comment
Some of you may not know this but Glisten has a great relationship with cancer non-profit Package of Prevention. Last week there was a great article about POP’s founder Courtney Smith on I Am That Girl and I just wanted to share it with you all… Enjoy and be inspired!
Courtney was only a junior at USC when she found out her mother had breast cancer. After being misdiagnosed for two years and battling through chemotherapy for one year, Courtney’s mother was declared cancer free in October of 2005. Shortly thereafter, she was diagnosed with leukemia and lost that battle in February of 2006, when Courtney was working on her graduate degree. Her mother’s strength in adversity and concern for the others in the hospital when she herself was hospitalized inspired Courtney to take her times of trial and turn them into strength as well.
Many young women have relatives or close family friends who are affected by cancer, and the battle weighs on their spirits. Undoubtedly, Courtney has had her ups and downs with her mother’s struggle, but Courtney has fought through losing her mother and her best friend and now chooses to use that experience to save one life at a time through the non-profit she founded. Package of Prevention promotes health and the importance of cancer screening for early detection. (Read more about Package of Prevention at www.packageofprevention.com)
Courtney is a successful young woman with a family full of supporters. She demonstrates the willingness to fight through adversity, to fight for herself, and to fight for others. Even in the midst of her mother’s cancer treatment, Courtney decided to continue her education and begin work on her Master’s degree. And when her mother passed away, Courtney continued to keep up with her schoolwork and graduate on time, all in honor of her mother. She has used her adversity as inspiration and now she inspires others to do the same.
